Jury statement

"In this work, the jury recognised the particularly sensitive approach of the design to the issue of dealing with dementia patients in rural areas. In an in-depth analysis process, the needs of those affected were recognised, the spatial requirements of art therapy were worked out and their translation into appropriate architecture - based on one of Merleau-Ponty's philosophical principles - was consistently implemented. At the same time, the project is not afraid to tackle a further complex of issues: the revitalisation of disused infrastructure in the countryside and building in the context of traditional village architecture. In a convincing balance of references to traditional construction methods in Burgundy and the use of new architectural elements, an ensemble has been created that integrates the remains of a ruined building from the 1950s and disused thermal baths into the new spatial programme. The adjoining residential groups for dementia patients fit logically into this ensemble. The project was also well detailed and presented with strong graphics."
