Prof. Dr. Menno Reijneveld

Mr. Professor Menno (S.A.) Reijneveld, MD, PhD, is professor of Community and Occupational Medicine. He heads the Department of Health Sciences, and the Public Health Research programme of the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), University of Groningen, the Netherlands. His research focuses on prevention, and promotion of social participation in case of disease, in community-based settings across the life-course. A key feature of his research is a very close collaboration with practising professionals in the area of public health and related fields.

After his medical training, he worked for over 10 years in the city of Amsterdam, at the Amsterdam Municipal Health Service. In Amsterdam, he specialised in community medicine, epidemiology and public health, and wrote a PhD-thesis on the measurement of urban public health. His PhD-thesis received the Dutch national Public Health award 1995. Later on he moved to the national research organisation TNO Quality of Life, and was then asked to mover to the University Medical Center Groningen.

He is a member of the Dutch Health Council, visiting professor of the Kosice, SK, research institute KISH and member of various other national and European organisations and networks in the area of public health. He supervises a large number of PhD-students, and published almost 300 peer-reviewed papers and various books and reports.
