Ass. Prof. Nicoletta Setola
Nicoletta Setola owns an Architecture Diploma (2003), PhD in Architectural Technology and Design at University of Florence (2009). She is an Assistant Professor in Architectural Technology (2016) with a licence for Associate Professor.
Her research focuses on the topic of socio-healthcare building, particularly on functional analysis in complex architectural project. She is expert in methodology and tools for the spatial configuration analysis related to people flow in healthcare buildings and built environment (Space Syntax theory and methodology). She focused her research on space characteristics which favour rights to health in hospitals. Currently she is involved in the European Research COST Action IS1405: “Building Intrapartum Research Through Health – an interdisciplinary whole system approach to understanding and contextualising physiological labour and birth (BIRTH)” where she is investigating the relationship between architectural space and birth outcomes in different settings. (http://www.cost.eu/COST_Actions/isch/IS1405)
She is teaching the Architectural Technology Laboratory course at the School of Architecture in Florence (http://www.unifi.it/p-doc2-2015-0-A-2c2a39323629-1.html)
With her PhD thesis she received 2nd prize of the Rosalba La Creta Prize, from the Italian Society of Architectural Technology (SITdA). She also built up collaboration with foreign universities: Bartlett School of Architecture of UCL in London (UK), Ball State University (IN), Tonji University (CH), University of Lund (SW), Berlin University of Technology (D).
She has planned and organized several educational workshops on most recent approaches to design complexity for undergrad and PhD students. She is member of TESIS Centre “Systems and Technologies for Healthcare and Social Facilities” http://www.tesis.unifi.it/?page_id=2187&lang=en – Her last book published by Routledge in 2016 is “Designing Public Spaces in Hospitals” www.routledge.com/9781138857209
