Recycled Building Hospital

Tomás Renzulli

Supervisor: Catedra Explora
University of Buenos Aires

Author's description

"The project is a recycling of a pre-existing structure in which is located a sustainable hospital, which is intended not only to serve the community but also to generate a passage with cultural and public activity for those who visit it.

lts design is based on certain premises of neuroarchitecture, such as the use of certain colors for different environments to give a sense of calm and serenity, or the use of natural light and vegetation to help lower stress levels, etc.

lt takes advantage of the existing structure for less economic expenditure and impact on the environment, while allowing a much faster and flexible assembly being almost all dry construction."

Jury statement

"The project proposes to turn an abandoned warehouse into a hospital. It contributes to the discourse on the new use of existing inner-city buildings, which the jury considers to be very relevant and contemporary. The design also deals with the question of how the transition from public urban space to hospital operations can be designed and how the new functions can be integrated into the old structure by means of modular construction, which is also seen as positive. Even though there are still some weaknesses in terms of the spatial and functional implementation of the hospital floor plans, the jury would like to pay tribute to this courageous and very contemporary project."
