8th Health Care of the Future symposium – RETHINKING HOSPITALS
March 5-6, 2020
Academy of Arts, Berlin

At the 8th Health Care of the Future symposium, architects and medical professionals discussed the future of the hospital

Exciting lectures, speakers from different countries and disciplines as well as a wide range of perspectives on building in the healthcare sector - these were the components that made the 8th symposium in the "Health Care of the Future" series an inspiring event.
In spite of Corona, planners, decision-makers, operators, researchers and representatives of the healthcare industry gathered in the Akademie der Künste at the Brandenburg Gate to "rethink" the hospital of the future.
The day full of lectures and discussions was preceded by an evening get-together in the new Berlin cultural venue “Freiraum-in-der-Box”. There Benedetta Tagliabue delighted the guests with her poetic architecture of a cancer caring center, while three young architects were awarded the Architecture for Health Students' Award for the first time.

Building Health - Foyer Talk
June 28, 2018
Foyer - Wikingerufer 7, Berlin

The city, with its public and private spaces, constitutes the physical environment (natural and built) of daily life for the largest and growing part of the European population. This metropolitan environment with no doubt shapes our behavior and influences our health. A "Health Promoting Urbanism" will center on the health status of residents as a fundamental factor in planning and design. Conscious urban planning can actively prevent poor air quality, noise pollution, heat islands. In this urban fabric of the healthy city, patient-centered health care infrastructure plays a special role.
How do we experience and use this urban space? How does it influence us? What options does it offer? How do we integrate health care into urban life? And what architectural and planning means are there to make the city sustainable as a healthy, social and cultural environment?
An interdisciplinary panel of experts discussed these questions at the foyer of the former LandesbildstelleBerlin (film archive of the Land Berlin).

7. Symposium Health Care of the Future – Healthcare meets Architecture
March 2, 2018
Academy of Arts, Berlin

A multidisciplinary audience of more than two hundred gathered for the 7th Healthcare of the Future Symposium in Berlin. The participants followed the fourteen talks by the international panel in the Akademie der Künste at the Brandenburg Gate.
Forward-looking concepts in diverse orders of scale were presented – from the caring centre for cancer patients in Northern England to the master plan for the Hamburg-Eppendorf University Hospital. Expert lectures on topics such as digital health, structural development in healthcare and spatial cognition gave listeners much food for thought along the way. The large bandwidth of topics at the interface of healthcare, architecture and urban development found a common denominator under the slogan Healing Architecture 4.0: the digitalisation of healthcare and its infrastructural development.
In 2006, Christine Nickl-Weller initiated the biennial Symposium Health Care of the Future in Berlin. ENAH announces the 8th edition of the event for March 2020!
