Young talents from around the globe competed for this year's Architecture for Health Student Award and Charité Special Prize. The topics of the submitted projects were diverse, including innovative concepts of sustainable care for people in different life situations, small-scale interventions to design healthy and health-promoting environments, and theoretical approaches to improve hospital planning through process-mining. The jury ultimately decided to award two first and two third prizes for the Student Award as well as one Charité prize.

The winning projects reflect the diversity of student ideas. The two first prizes went to Sweden to Karl-Johan Gydell for his design of a family hospice and to the USA to Lukas Hendricks, who had worked on a housing and care concept for dementia patients. A third prize was awarded to a re-use project for a hospital in a disused market hall by Tomás Renzulli, Argentina. The second third prize was awarded to a landscape planning project by Katarzyna Jamiol from Poland, which dealt with the topic of climate-resilient environments and protection from heat.

Jieqi Li from the University of Sydney impressed the jury with her design for a youth therapy center, in which nature, sustainable construction and supportive design are the key themes.

The award ceremony took place on February 29th  as part of the 10th Health Care of the Future Symposium in Berlin, where the winners had the opportunity to present their projects to the public during an evening event at the British Embassy.

Congratulations to all the winners!

Our heartfelt thanks go to the Hans and Christine Nickl-Stiftung and the Charité-Universitätsmedizin for their generous support of the award.

11th Symposium Health Care of the Future 2026 On Friday, 13 March, we had the pleasure of hosting the 11th Symposium “Health Care of the Future” at the Academy of Arts at the Brandenburg Gate – an inspiring day dedicated to the transformation of healthcare. Under the theme “Ex STRUCTURA – smart care, human values” , the symposium focused on the paradigm shift that involves consciously deconstructing, reorganising, and rethinking established structures.
